The Top 5 Spring 2014 Colors For Women

Spring 2014 officially arrives this week and the color direction for Spring 2014 is chock-full of surprises. Traditionally Spring colors are brighter than their Fall counterparts but this has changed over the past few seasons with the blurring of lines between the seasonal color palettes. Last Spring brought the return of neon pop colors and designers still seem to be in an upbeat mood.

Key Spring 2014 Colors For Women

In womenswear, the most important color this season is pink. Every shade of pink was highlighted in collections from Burberry Prorsum, John Galliano, Oscar de la Renta, Temperley London and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi. From Hot Pink to Carnation, it seems that women will have plenty of pink options to choose from this Spring.Trend Council Spring/Summer 2014 Carnation

Another key color is Pantone's color of the year, Radiant Orchid (18-3224 TCX). This pale tone was front-and-center at Zac Posen, Versace, Prabal Gurung and Christopher Kane. Look for more variations of this sophisticated color in the women's Fall 2014 runway shows.

Yellow was also important and here there are two clear winners. Canary Yellow as highlighted by Aigner, Iceberg, Fay and Michael Kors is the brighter option. The more demure choice was a paler, Pastel Yellow as shown by Oscar de la Renta and Ralph Lauren. My vote goes to Canary as it is a more versatile hue that works well for both men and women and across categories from sportswear to activewear.

Trend Council also highlighted Venetian Red/Tomato Red for Spring 2014. This is a bright red with a slight orange cast and was prominently on display at Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Thakoon and Vera Wang. Always a staple in womenswear, this popular hue will prove even more influential this season.

The last essential color to look for this Spring is a bright Royal. This color appeared in the shows at Fendi, David Koma and Diane von Furstenberg. Dubbed Klein Blue or Reflex Blue by Trend Council, this almost neon shade is a cool departure from the more traditional feminine color selections.
